Dear Followers,
First of all: 2 posts in one day... sad I know. But this thought popped in my mind and I couldn't not share it. There is a "new" song called You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift. I, myself, am not a huge fan of Taylor Swift. But you know Teardrops On My Guitar, Love Story, got me through some pettish drama going on between my friends, so I can give her some props. But is this song really easy to relate to? Now, there's are tons of songs that are poppy and dancey that I can't relate to at all. For example: Party All The Time by Black Eyed Peas a song about partying all the time. Hence the title. A great fun song, but I can't really sleep all day and party all night. Or maybe the song Glamourous by Fergie. A song that explains how to be absolutely amazing and if "you ain't got no money take your broke broke home." Now how this goes back to Taylor Swift who writes country songs about love and life. She should be easy to relate to because she is 17. An age which is now glamourized to be the most amazing time of your life, but she isn't writing a song about partying. She is writing a song about love. Love is hard to find according to books and movies and the "clichey" stuff. If you have seen the music video for this song (if you haven't watch it now if you want to get some of this post: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaYkwItyMFk&feature=fvst ). The synopsis of the song is a girl who knows this guy (let's call the guy Matt) really well thinks that the girl that he is dating is not really for him. She thinks that she belongs with him.
In the video Taylor plays "herself" or maybe a nerdy band geek girl who wears t-shirts and sneakers and unrealistic Ray-Ban glasses. Lucas Till plays Matt the amazing (and really hot) guy that she is crushing on. The person who plays Matt's girlfriend is guess who... Megan Fox, Angelina Jolie... NO TAYLOR SWIFT WITH A BRUNETTE WIG ON!!! She's a cheer captain, she wears short skirts and high heels. In the video it shows that the nerdy girl really knows this guy and she belongs with him. But this is where she didn't look in to the future. Let's say Matt and her go through a nasty break up. She obviously is friends with him. Does she really want to ruin a friendship with a guy she claims that is so wonderful? I wouldn't, but that's just me.
I have never thought about a couple that are in my group of friends that should go out with me instead of the girl that he is dating. I mean I have thought that they really terrible for each other and the break up will be the worst thing that could ever happen to each of them. I would never do anything to break them apart. Not saying that Taylor Swift has ever done in her life, but just saying that I haven't. I have liked a person and wished that we could be something. But I know that that certain person actually likes someone else. That someone else isn't a bad person though, so I wouldn't feel like the song 'You Belong With Me' because I would be happy for them. So maybe it's just not easy to relate to for me. How about my followers (or guests, I would LOVE to hear you opinions)?
I just want to say I AM NOT HATING ON TAYLOR SWIFT. I LOVE SOME OF HER SONGS, SHE IS A GREAT SINGER AND GUITARIST, AND FEARLESS WAS A GOOD ALBUM. But I always question songs, even of my favorite bands! So if Taylor Swift ever reads this (which she probably won't) I am not a stan (stalker fan) or person who hates you, I give you props, you are a great singer. I just wanted to vocalize my opinion on this song because everyone else loves it, and I like it too, I just wanted my opinion be heard. Thanks.
I'm probably going to be coolest dork you'll ever meet. :D

Eh, I think this song has its good parts and bad parts. I like how the character she's doing is this person that just about anybody can identify with. But I really don't like this message that if your crush is with someone you don't like, you should try to break them up. How about, if you really like them, waiting until they break up with that person (which they are bound to do!), and THEN trying to be their girlfriend? Seems like it would work out a lot better.
ReplyDeletei like the song a lot, and i didn't thinks that she was really friends friends with the guy but that they were people who new everything about each other
ReplyDeleteP.s i believe this video was based on the girl friend video, (Avril Lavigne) she's both girls in it.
To Slip Jig: I wonder why I don't like Avril Lavigne.
ReplyDeleteTo Blue Bibliophile: I agree with you completley except I think the whole song is good. The point of the video (i think) is to make you side with nerdy Taylor. Also I don't like how she doesn't wear her glasses in the end. Like, it made it seem like it was a HUGE cinderella transformation at the end of the video when it really wasn't.
That is true, the song itself doesn't really show her trying to break them up. And I totally agree with you with the glasses thing. A lot of people could actually look better with glasses than without. And she's so pretty it doesn't really matter what she's wearing, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI COMPLETELY AGREE. The song itself doesn't show her trying to break them up but it makes you side nerdy Taylor.
